Emma Gaffney, junior at HCAM, was recognized by the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards 2023 as a Southeast Regional Gold Key winner for her creative nonfiction work, "September 1, 2017," an essay that "gracefully explores the intersection of geography, longing, and identity at a critical juncture of adolescence with deftly shimmering wit and erudite reflectiveness," according to Mr. Chris Nelson, the HCAM faculty sponsor of Gaffney's submission. The Gold Key is the highest regional award given in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards: "[T]he nation's longest-running, most prestigious educational initiative supporting student achievement in the visual and literary arts." (Scholastics, 2023)
Congratulations, Emma! We're so proud of you!
