About Me

Mr. Ward is one of the three Social Studies teachers at Hickory Career and Arts Magnet School. Mr. Ward is a transplant to the area from Cincinnati where he had lived his whole life. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education Social Studies in June of 2008. Mr. Ward tested in the top 15% of the country on the November 2008 Praxis Two Social Studies Curriculum Exam. He has been a teacher in Ohio and North Carolina since 2008. Mr. Ward is certified in North Carolina for grades 6-12 Social Studies. Mr. Ward was nominated for the Wilmer Jenkins Teacher of the Year Award during the 2014-2015 school year. Mr. Ward is currently enrolled at East Carolina University in the MAEd Instructional Technology program.

Mr. Ward worked as a Resident Advisor at the University of Cincinnati from 2005-2007 in Calhoun Hall. This job consisted of ensuring the safety of over 60 male residents in a 500 resident co-ed dormitory as well as being a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity- Gamma Gamma Zeta Chapter. Mr. Ward also served as a Women’s Basketball Varsity Assistant Coach at Lakota East High School from 2003-2008 and at Amelia High School in 2008-2009.


Some of Mr. Ward’s hobbies including watching sports, playing sports, and rooting for his favorite sports teams; the Cincinnati Bearcats and Cincinnati Reds. He also works in the summers at Chestnut Lake Camp in Pennsylvania as the Tournament and Transportation Director at this seven week residential camp. Mr. Ward’s favorite books include Truman, the Jordan Rules, and Live from New York.
