Welcome to the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Academy at Hickory Career and Arts Magnet School. My name is Marilyn Johnson. I am affectionately referred to as "Momma J".  I have over 30 years experience in the foodservice industry and I'm passionate about sharing this knowledge with our HCAM Food and Nutrition, and Culinary Arts and Hospitality students.

My teaching responsibilities include the instruction of Food and Nutrition, as well as Culinary Arts and Hospitality. HCAM Culinary Academy students are exposed to the fundamentals of safe food handling and sanitation, food preparation techniques, as well as the history of food in the many cultures throughout our world and how the food industry is embracing current food production and sustainability practices. The Culinary Academy curriculum also covers many areas of the foodservice industry including best management practices, nutrition through the life cycle, and entrepreneurial opportunities in the business of Nutrition Science, Hospitality Management, Culinary Arts, and many others.
